Odete Martins Bigote was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and educated in England, Switzerland, and the United States.

She has traveled extensively and has a background that includes the arts, languages, literature, holistic health, yoga instruction, and other spiritual disciplines. Odete has a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from Columbia University in the City of New York. Diploma of Proficiency in English, Cambridge University, Cambridge England.
